Local Government Aspirant, Olujimi Desmond Sponsors 30 Indigent Education With Over N6M In Ogun

As part of activities to commemorate the fourth year remembrance of his father, Hon. Olujimi Adekunle Desmond has offered scholarship opportunities to 30 indigent students from the 15 wards across Abeokuta South Local government area of Ogun state to study at Graceland Polytechnic, Kwara State.

The scholarship programme held under the aegis of S. O Olujimi foundation runs into over six million naira and is part of his vision to foster education in the premier local government.

According to a beneficiary, Alao Dorcas, Hon. Desmond has epitomised his love for education and as such, kudos must be given to him.

“There are many students that still wish to further their education but the economic reality of Nigeria doesn’t permit. It is very saddening that when public office holders are contesting, they are all over the place, promising to improve the welfare of students and our parents, only to get there and do nothing.
“It is a thing of joy that Honourable Olujimi Desmond has decided to embark on this great programme for Abeokuta South students in spite of the fact that he is not in power. It is safe to say that Hon. Desmond knows the value of education in nation-building,” Dorcas said.

Other beneficiaries who spoke to Ogun Update Online Newspaper expressed their gratitude to the philanthropist.

Sokunbi Pelumi, while expressing his delight over the scheme said: “Hon. Desmond has lifted a huge burden off Abeokuta South students and it calls for commendation amongst all in Ogun State”.
Another student, Alimat Karounwi, said her parents had lost hope of getting her tuition until the scheme was announced recently. “This is a great blessing and I am most grateful,” she said.
Sopeyin Olamide, appreciated the efforts of Hon. Desmond for helping her secure admission to higher institution with scholarship opportunity when all hope was lost.

To honourable Olujimi Adekunle Desmond, the good work of his foundation had to accrue to the people of Abeokuta South Local Government as well because the LG holds a special place in his heart.

He promised to continue to do more in developing the society at large.
