Damilola Simeon of Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu in Ogun state has been elected as the Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) in the state.
Daosmos as fondly polled 9 votes from the total votes of 10 accredited senators from the 10 higher institutions present at the election ground.
The peaceful election held at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja in Abeokuta was conducted under presence of heavy security.
Damilola who succeeded the outgone Chairman, Comrade Tomiwa Bamgbose was elected unopposed following the withdrawal of other six candidates from the contest.
The new NANS Chairman in his speech, appreciated the students of the state for their full support and for believing in him, assuring not to fail them.
He also thanked the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for recognizing supporting the students.
He said, “firstly, I want to thank the students for their support and love today, this has never happened in the history of NANS in this state when a contestant emerged unopposed, this shows that they all want me as the chairman and also I want to appreciate the state government led by a listening governor, prince Dapo Abiodun for always supporting the students anytime we need his assistance, this governor has been playing fatherly role to all students in the state, infact we have never regretted voting for Dapo Abiodun because he has been fulfilling his promises to us and we pray God continue to be with him” He concluded
He assured the students to join hands with the NAOSS leadership in the state to ensure students get bursary on time.
Similarly, Comrade Ekundina Segun Elvis was reelected as the Vice Chairman for the second consecutive time.
Other elected officers are; Comrade Agbeniyi Abiodun a.k.a Rahdeb – Assistant General Secretary, Comrade Odeyemi Ezekiel a.k.a. Eazy – Welfare Director, Comrade Taiwo Samson a.k.a Alaga – Sports Director, Comrade Bello Adewale a.k.a. Rahman Jago – Director of Treasury.
Meanwhile, the special assistant to the governor on Students Matters, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez described the election as peaceful and free of violence.
He commended the state government for not failing and disappointing the students in the state.
