The Legislative Reforms Committee being anchored by the Majority Leaders in the South West States of Nigeria chaired by the Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, has congratulated the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo on his recent emergence as Vice Chairman, (South West) Conference of Speakers, State Legislatures of Nigeria.
Agunbiade, while presenting the congratulatory letter to Oluomo during a courtesy visit on him at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, described his emergence as a blessing to the Conference not only in the South West but the nation.
According to him, by virtue of his emergence as the Chairman, South West, Conference of Speakers, his experience and outstanding performance would help to further reposition the region to continue to maintain its leadership role amongst the comity of States in legislative business in the nation.
He further sought the support of the Conference of Speakers to enable the Legislative Reforms Committee perform its function to further reposition the legislative arm in the region and by extension the nation for better legislative activities to aid good governance.
Responding, the Chairman, South West Conference of Speakers, Rt. Hon. Oluomo appreciated the initiatives of the Majority Leaders from the South West, especially for creating a unique and uniform standing order for the region, which placed it at par with legislative arm in the developed world.
He called for replication of same in the entire State Houses of Assembly across the nation as practiced in advanced democracies to further enhance democratic practice in the country; assuring the Legislative Reform Committee being anchored by the Majority Leaders of the six State Houses of Assembly of the region for more support in the achievement of their mandate.
