......says, "agency, superficial and cosmetic national monument.
Rights activist and former students leader, Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo, has called on federal government to scrap National Orientation Agency for failure to execute mandate.
Comrade Akilo who made the call to the federal government in a statement release to the media during a chat with an online media network, amebo9jafeed, described the agency as superficial and cosmetic national monument. He said, "it is sad and frustrating that the agency cannot comprehend the nation's current reality.
Akilo opined that, one of the very useless and inarticulate federal government agency is, "National Orientation Agency". This is the agency of Nigeria tasked with communicating government policy, staying abreast of public opinion, and promoting patriotism, national unity, and development of Nigerian society.
The agency’s stated role is “to develop a Nigerian Society that is orderly, responsible and disciplined, where citizens demonstrate core values of honesty, hard work and patriotism; where democratic principles and ideas are upheld, and where peace and harmony reign”.
He further stated that, "for a time of adversity and appalling situation our nation is currently facing, this indolent agency under the Ministry of Information whose focus is supposed to be the orientation and re-orientation of Nigerians to issues of nation building, there is nothing on ground to justify existence of the NOA.
For a very long time, this critical and important agency that supposed to be relevant by championing the cause of nation-building have kept silent. No public enlightenment campaign organized by the NOA. The agency is an ordinary cosmetic national monument that have nothing to offers the nation.
