Ogun State Government has re-affirmed its commitment to agricultural development across the state.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina made this known during an inspection tour to Ijebu-Ode Development Initiative on Poverty Reduction (IDIPR), Farm Village, in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.
He maintained that government was poised at procuring food security, especially now that COVID 19 has crippled many jobs, revealing Ministry of Agriculture's readiness to render free extension services to farmers in order to boost productivity of aquaculture.
"COVID 19 has made us to reset our agenda in agriculture. Fish farming is one of the sectors that can absorb people being dislodged due to corona virus pandemic. We are also here to give free supplementary extension services to fish farmers all the time", he said.
In his welcome address earlier, the Chairman, Governing Council, IDIPR, Prof. Olanipekun Alausa, said the farm was a community based Non-Government Organisation since 1999 to fight poverty.
Represented by his Vice, Prof. Abeke Adesanya, Alausa revealed that IDIPR Farm Village has become a preferred place of internship for students from different higher institutions in the country.
He called on the state government to intervene in the areas of land litigation, electrification of the farm and adequate loan to enable them realise their aim of poverty alleviation.
