In its bid to sustain its various enlightenment programmes aimed at stemming the tide of the ravaging Covid 19, the Ogun State Ministry of Agric has embarked on a market monitoring to ascertain the level of compliance.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, who monitored the social distancing compliance of traders at the farmers market (Oja Agbe), in Asero, Abeokuta, said the exercise was necessary in order to dissuade traders from clustering.
Expressing satisfaction with the level of compliance, Odedina revealed that the State government has been in the vanguard of social distancing, good personal hygiene, the use of face mask among others, just as it would also continue to ensure that the people imbibe market place hygiene saying, everyone must be involved in the fight against covid 19.
Assuring the market men and women of government support Odedina said "We are doing this sensitisation because this is an Ogun- organised and facilitated market, we are happy that market women and operators are aware of the dangers of exposing themselves and they are complying by protecting themselves and adhering strictly to the various guidelines against the pandemic".
Responding, Mrs. Oyatayo Ewatomi who patronises the market often submitted that engaging market women in social distancing was a laudable idea, believing that it would help in halting the spread of the disease.
It would be recalled that the State Government carried out disinfection exercise in all major markets, livestock markets and Abbattoir across the 20 Local Governments in the state,
in order to further safeguard the health of all residents against the outbreak of Corona Virus epidemic.
In addition, places of worship and other public places were also not spared.
