One Sodiq Taofeek has said that he does not want to divorce his wife despite that he is aware that she has a concubine.
He made this statement on monday 18th November 2019 at the Grade C Customary Court Oja Oba in Mapo area, Ibadan Oyo State where his wife Sarki Taofeek filed a divorce suit against him as well as to take custody of the two children in the marriage.
According to Sodiq, he is still in love with her and does not want them to part ways " I don't want her to leave me even if she insists that she does not want me again, I still want her in my life."
He reiterated further that his wife is having an affair with various men and he is not pleased with this development despite this, he is not ready to leave the marriage that he is ready to share his wife with other men. He said
But according to Saki the wife of Sodiq, she said she is no longer interested in the marriage to her husband as he has turned her into his punching bag " I want this honourable court to dissolve this marriage, I can no longer bear all the humiliation. He beats me up at the slightest provocation, he doesn't take care of the children nor pay for the house rent which we live in. I have taken all the responsibility as regards the children, i cannot be in an abused marriage anymore." She said
The wife's mother also testified that Sodiq does not perform all his responsibility in his home " I have had cause to borrow my daughter money on various occasions to pay for their house rent and pay the children's school fees. He has never for once paid the children's school fees nor performed any responsibility over them as a father."
We never gave our consent to their marriage in the beginning because we discovered he was a drunk but we found out my daughter was already pregnant with a child for him. He started beating her even before the marriage rite was done accordingly and I made reports to his parents but nothing was done to salvage the situation." She said
After looking into the case critically, the Presiding President Chief Odunade Ademola J.P told both parties to go their separate ways in peace and the two children of both parties should remain in custody of their mother till they are of age. Their father is to pay the sum of ten thousand naira monthly for the upkeep of his children as well as their school fees and medical bills when the need arise.
