Nigerians Carpet Buhari Govt Over National ID Card Renewal Fee

Nigerians have berated the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari over the renewal fee for the National Identity Card fixed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

We reported earlier that Nigerians will have to pay N3,000 through remita for the renewal of National Identity Card and N5,000 for replacement.

This was disclosed in a series of tweets by the commission on its tweeter handle (@nimc_ng) on Tuesday.

The commission noted that applicants who wish to renew their card can visit any NIMC office with the required documents to obtain their card.

“The requirements include a written application with attached proof of payment receipt made through remita, bank teller, NIN slip and submit it at our office.

“Card renewal is N3000 when your card expires and card replacement is N5000 for lost or stolen cards,” NIMC tweeted.

NIMC explained in the tweet that the main focus of the commission was to ensure that all Nigerians are enrolled.

“Our main focus is ensuring that all Nigerians are enrolled and issued their NIN and Your NIN is the most important token of your enrollment.”

Good afternoon. Our main focus is ensuring that all Nigerians are enrolled and issued their NIN. Your NIN is the most important token of your enrollment. You will be issued your cards when funds permit. Please bear with us https://t.co/Dt0MdoDyPG

Nigerians can authenticate their National Identity Number through the NIMC verification portal, the commission said.

”Your NIN can be authenticated through our verification portal without your card,” NIMC tweeted.

Apparently displeased with the development, Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to berate the Federal Government.

National ID is nothing but an extortion. Of what benefit is it for people to be wasting 10% of their minimum wages for renewal and over 15% on replacement?

Yet they find it difficult to pay minimum wage. Why are they throwing everything all at once at us if not for extortion?

N5000 to renenw National ID card??? That means your citizenship as a nigerian expires after a certain period of time so you have to renew your citizenship with N5000 or else you are no longer nigerian? Who brought up this foolishness???

National ID card 3000for renewal and 5000 for replacement.

The question here is, How many people have gotten their National ID card?

Someone like me I registered mine since 2012 uptill now I've not gotten mine. Nigeria is really a Joke.😥😥

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂 make I laugh first.

Una never even give ID card to people that registered since 1900, you are already talking of expiration.

Biko someone should explain why a national ID card should expire. Like after it expires, the person stops being a citizen or what?

This is one commission from the federal government that people don't know rake millions of naira for the Federal government.
I worked in this National ID office during my PPA and I can assure you that no matter how much you wait you would still not get any national ID card. pic.twitter.com/FcpHAKMrMk

Paying for National ID is another form of tax on an already impoverished people. This time, we are taxing those that may have no jobs for being unfortunate enough to be Nigerians. You now have to pay the govt to be a citizen of a country that doesnt give a shit about its citizens https://t.co/YAcrVvMeM6

NIMC Update!!!
National ID (NID) card – N3,000

New NID renewal and Replacement – N5,000

Do u know most people still use temporary NID slips? But the agency has the nerve to extort Nigerians even when they haven't done their own job.

A sick country where citizenship expires. pic.twitter.com/A0rjmS2ulG

I applied for National ID since 2014, I'm yet to receive the permanent National ID up until now.

In fact, I stopped going to NIMC office to ask if my National ID is ready, now, NIMC is asking I pay N5000 for a renewal of an ID I never got.

NIMC is a SCAM!

Traveling passport, driver's license & national ID card will all expire, and @nigimmigration@FRSCNigeria & @nimc_ng will make you pay to get them renewed, but @inecnigeria made your voter's card to have life validity.
Only our votes matter to them.
This is deliberate wickedness

National ID card renewal is N3000, while National ID replacement is N5000.
If you withdraw money, Gov't will collect money.
If you deposit money, Gov't will collect money.
If you use POS, Gov't will collect money, etc.
Very soon Nigeria Gov't will tax us for breathing too much.
