A High Court sitting in Edo State has restrained Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Ministry of Physical planning and urban development from demolishing or altering T Latifah hotel located at Ugbor area of the metropolis pending the determination of motion on notice.
Also retrained are the State Commissioner of Police, Edo State government and Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.
Justice D.I Okungbowa gave the interlocutory order in a suit marked B/151c/05/2019 and brought before the court by Comrade Tony Kabaka Adun, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The State government had served the claimant notice of eviction for allegedly erecting the hotel on government land, a claim the hotel claimant denied.
Meanwhile some youths sympathetic to the hotelier Wednesday begged governor Godwin Obaseki to pardon Adun over his recent utterances and renege on his proposed demolition of the hotel.
The youths in their numbers gathered at the hotel at about 9am to sympathize with Adun who is believed to be distraught by the eviction notice.
Spokesperson for the youths, Mr. Charles Uyiekpen urged the governor “to show compassion on Mr. Adun no matter his offenses and allowed the hotel to remain”.
