'My Administration Will Be Run Based On Fiscal Prudence' - NURTW President

NURTW chairman says administration will run based on fiscal prudence

The newly elected President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Prof. Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, has promised to run the new administration of the NURTW policy thrust based on ‘Fiscal Prudence’.

He said this on the occasion of the inauguration of the new National Administrative Council of the Union held recently at the Nigeria Air force Conference Centre in Abuja.

Alhaji Baruwa who is the eighth President of the Union showed appreciation to God Almighty for his victory, while also commending everyone presents at the conference which birthed his election.

He said, “ I will not take for granted, God’s grace in giving me the privilege and opportunity to serve this distinguished and great Union as the eighth President. I am thankful to God for the divine mandate and wish to assure that the mandate and the power thereto shall be used to do good to the teeming members of the union across the Country particularly, and of the public generally.”

He further said, ” To achieve this goal of fiscal prudence, I am going to run an all-inclusive administration.

The new administration intends to carry out comprehensive restructuring and reorganization of all department s and organs of the union for optimum performance in addition to ensuring that we put the square pegs in square holes.”

He added that his administration will not tolerate redundancy while maintaining zero tolerance for corruption or sharp practices.

Baruwa who also promised to make the welfare of his members a priority said, ” However, the welfare of elected officers, career officers and all staff including members shall be in our priority list. Meanwhile, every loopholes, leakages and conduit pipes shall be closed.”

He promised to review all MOUs, new appointments, contract agreement entered into after May 15, 2019, to make sure the terms and conditions of such agreements are in conformity with the constitution and condition of service of the Union.

He assured his members that all the six zonal councils and thirty-six state councils including the FCT Abuja will be conducted in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the Union as enshrined in Article 14, section 5 subsection (1) and Article 16, section(1).

The NURTW President further appreciated his predecessor, Alhaji Najeem Usman, aka Makama Gusau, for taking the Union to global limelight and putting in place solid structures that will stand the test of time across the country.

He pledged to sustain the legacies put in place by the outgoing administration, with a hope to surpass the record as so far set.

He commended the General Secretary, Chief Clement Wetkur for his sense of humility and undivided loyalty, amongst others.

He, therefore, called for the support and cooperation of the Union members, while promising to take the Union to the next level of growth and development.
