Poverty, Lack Of Development In Oil Rich Niger Delta Self-Inflicted - FG Declares

The Federal Government Wednesday pinpointed armed conflicts and militancy as factors conspiring to hinder growth and development in the oil rich Niger Delta, appealing to stakeholders in the region to work towards sustainable peace.

Mrs. Lauren Braide, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, made the submission in a statement released on behalf of the Deputy Director of Press of the ministry, Stephen Kilebi at a sensitisation and enlightenment programme for peace in Niger Delta in Port Harcourt.

Represented by Mr. Laurence Adigwe, Director of Special Duties, Braide said: “Armed conflicts and militancy have severely compromised the provision of basic services and access to food and income-generating activities as witnessed in the recent past. I therefore urge all to embrace peace to achieve development in the region.

“The essence of this gathering is to institute a culture of dialogue among our numerous stakeholders in the region with a view to ensuring that the much-desired sustainable peace and stability become a reality in Niger Delta.”
