The Nigeria Police Force in Abuja has released the photo of its three men who were erroneously killed by the Nigerian soldiers in Taraba State.
A statement signed by the Force PRO Frank Mba had said men of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by ASP Felix Adolije were on a covert operation to arrest a notorious kidnap kingpin Alhaji Hamisu who had been on the Police wanted list for his complicity in several high-profile kidnap cases in the state.
According to Mba, “Three Policemen (comprising one Inspector and two Sergeants) and one civilian died as a result of gunshot injuries sustained in the attack while others sustained serious gunshot wounds.”
“The soldiers thereafter released the handcuffed suspect, Alhaji Hamisu, who is now on the run.”
But a statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations Col. Sagir Musa said the police vehicle refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three consecutive checkpoints.
He said the police opened fire at the troops “thus prompting them to return fire.”
The sad incident happened on August 6, 2019 along Ibi-Wukari Road in Taraba State.
