A lack of proper sex education can result in irreversible consequences in youths. They could end up taking part in reckless behaviour which could lead to sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and in the extreme, change of sexual orientation.
Taking your child through sex education benefits them in a number of ways. There are some reasons why it is important that you, as a parent, do it:
1. When children have questions, parents and trusted family members are the best sources of answers as this curbs the likelihood of them being misled by strangers.
2. Talking about sex builds trust between parents and children.
3. Children need to learn about sex. It is better to receive education from their parents than to receive misleading education from social media and/or wrong people.
4. Children are easily influenced when they don't have enough information.
5. Teenagers who are not sexually prepared can develop traumas, fears and insecurities.
