RTEAN Members In Ogun Accuse Chairman Of Harassment, Death Threat

     

ABEOKUTA - Some members of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ogun State chapter have accused their chairman, Hammed Kuku of intimidation and allegedly threatening their lives.

The members also accused the chairman of using security operatives to intimidate members of the union who complained against his corrupt, incompetence, gross misconduct and abuse of office. 

Speaking on behalf of the members, the state secretary of RTEAN in Ogun State, Tiwalade Akingbade, raised this alarm on Wednesday while briefing newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The secretary added that the chairman, who had been alleged of incompetence, gross misconduct, corruption and abuse of office, was again in January 2019 through a letter, asked to step down for proper investigation by the association, but remained adamant and resorted to threats as well as unleashing security agents against his perceived opponents.

He explained that their travails had begun with the vote of no confidence passed in Kuku's leadership and his eventual suspension by 42 members, including the state executive committee and chapel chairmen  in December 2018.

Akingbade, listed Kayode Inaolaji, deputy state chairman (operation), Munirudeen Jimoh, deputy treasurer, Folami Folarin, state vice chairman, Yahya Oriyomi, state auditor, Akeem Kolawole, state trustee, Kayode Kehinde, Kuto Motor Park chapel chairman and Akibu Titilayo (Efele), as other executive members being threatened by Kuku.

He however, disclosed that petitions had been written to the Department of State Security (DSS) and Ogun State Police Command on the matter and appealed to them to wade into the matter before it degenerates into crisis.

When contacted yesterday, Kuku said that he neither issued threats nor used security agents to intimidate his state executive members.

He also denied the allegations of corruption, incompetent leadership, abuse of office and gross misconduct leveled against him by the executive members, describing allegations as "baseless".
