Social Media is a platform where it would appear that anyone of any sex can speak their mind without fear of anybody. This was the original idea that the makers of popular social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter had in mind.
Flash forward through 2012 to 2016, people became elaborate, women became more outspoken, the fight for equality of the sexes intensified and feminists found their voices on social media.
Feminists became self-aware and woke, the various issues oppressing the existence of women became too oppressive and large to ignore, so women decided to take an initiative.
What they did, was to find a way to make their burdens lighter by talking about it with other women scattered all over the world. And since they couldn't meet up with everyone at once, they decided to take to social media.
The word spread faster that way.
But with the rise of social media feminists and woke women, came the social media trolls, stalkers, and anti-feminists who used their power of anonymity as a way to antagonize ladies who dared to speak up.
A war between trolls and feminists began.
A simple call to action and request for just a little of the privileges their male counterparts have enjoyed their whole life quickly escalated to death threats, rape threats, slut shaming, body shaming, stalking, sexually abusive messages, hacked accounts and leaked nude pictures and sex tapes.
These feminists (love them or hate them) put up a good fight, but their enemies used a weapon that is feared by women, frowned upon by society and easily accessible to the men. They used the shame, judgment, and stigma that comes with being raped or sexually harassed.
Trolls still enjoy power as the majority of our society still believes that it is a woman's fault whenever she is raped or sexually harassed in any other form. Since she can't speak up when any of these things happened to her, those trolls use it as a strategy to silence her.
A woman posts a really hot picture of her in a bikini or a cloth that shows off her curve with the hashtag body positivity, loving myself, etc.
Folks flood her timeline and comment things like; "looking sexy", "this picture is doing things to me" and every other sexually lauded comment they can muster.
Let's talk about her direct messages for a second. A lady opens her inbox and unsolicited dick pictures hit her in the face and messages detailing how they want to get inside her and do nasty stuff to her, follow.
And if she ever tries to tell them off, they call her a harlot for refusing to sleep with them. for refusing to sleep with them.
Many derogatory names are formed to insult the Nigerian woman.
"Bitter feminist"
"Slay Queen"
"Hoe"
Speaking of harlots, have I told you about the girl who posted a semi or fully nude picture of herself because she is just comfortable in her own skin? She got more sexually abusive comments than the first girl and now has to look back when going home because she has a stalker who thinks her pictures showed she was "asking for it".
Don't even get me started on the woman who cried out for equality of the sexes, the feminist in shiny armor that dared to challenge the status quo and questioned the patriarchal society.
Somebody told her that her duty belongs in the "other room", another person told her how good she would look bent over on his bed, a bolder one told her to suck his manhood since she needed what to do with her mouth.
Today on Twitter, the fierce agitator we all nod to her tweets, got into an argument with the internet troll who has a picture of an egg as his profile picture.
Do you know what happened? A simple banter that was supposed to be two intelligent minds airing their opinion amicably and why the other's view doesn't suit them, turned into name-calling and rape threats.
He even went as far as recruiting other sexually provoked men who all agreed that raping her would be the best way to make her see things from their viewpoint.

But sadly today, it has become a den of rapists and shamers who are looking for the next woman to exert all their sexual energy on. They have found a way to turn it into the fastest way to tell someone you want to rape them.
It has become a convenient way to show someone pictures of your erect and disgusting manhood and how you would like to stick it in them.
Sex has always been twisted in such a way to silence women and take away their worth. A way to make them feel so ashamed and like second class citizens.
Because of its degrading nature, it is no surprise that whenever there is a little conflict or clash of opinions on social media, people resort to using it as a weapon to silence the other person for good.
