Permutation for 9th Assembly begins, APC chieftain, Ex Governors jostle for principal positions

It has been reported that returning members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) causes in the two chambers, which includes those who just came in new and the Party’s national leadership in Abuja, were put in place ahead of the inauguration of the National Assembly.

The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has started mobilizing governors elected on its platform and key chieftains to ensure that the leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly are “loyalists.”

According to reports, the governors elected on the platform of the APC had been advised to work together with senators and House of Representatives members from their state to ensure the success of the party in the National Assembly.

The move, it was gathered, followed the purported plot by the outgoing Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to influence the emergence of a new Senate leadership when the 9th Senate is inaugurated in June, this year.

The Saraki group was said to have met last week at the Maitama residence of Senator Saraki where 35 PDP senators-elect agreed to influence the emergence of a new Senate leadership and retain the position of deputy Senate president.

The group, which was said to have come up with Plans A, B, and C, would sponsor one of them for the position of Senate president in the event two or more members of the APC caucus to present themselves for the position on the floor of the Senate.

Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin (APC, Kano), opened up on reasons why he met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the leadership of the Ninth Assembly. Abdulmumin Jibrin is a Nigerian politician, businessman and academic. He was born in Kano. He is an All Progressive Congress member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State.

Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, said he met with the president at the Presidential Villa, Abuja at the weekend.

Lawmakers-elect had since begun intense politicking for the four presiding officer positions – Senate president, Speaker, deputy Senate president and deputy Speaker.

Speaking to State House reporters after the meeting, Jibrin said: “Of course I met with the Mr President; first to greet him as usual, for all he has done and to congratulate him and to also offer a few advice.

“We all know the political issues now as matters related to the election of the leadership of the national assembly.”

On what is being done to avoid a repeat of the 2015 scenario, Jibrin said: “The position of our party and our leaders has always been that all elected members and of course, senators, should exercise patience; work is going on, consultations are being carried out and I believe that no any elected senator or members of APC would allow himself to be used by the opposition like in the case of 2015.

“In the case of 2015, there weren’t consequences, but I am pretty sure that this time around if anybody allowed himself to be used by the opposition party, there will certainly be consequences,” he said.
