A pregnant woman and her two children at Umuoffor village, Okija in Anambra State were burnt beyond recognition Tuesday when fire gutted their residence.
The spokesman of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed this in a statement yesterday.
He said the incident happened at about 7.30pm.
He said the fire burnt Mr. Maxwell Okeke’s pregnant wife, Nwazuru Okeke and two of his children, Chidi Ebube Okeke, two and Makuo Chukwu Okeke, one.
‘They were trapped in the inferno and burnt beyond recognition‘, the PPRO said.
He said police detectives attached to Okija Division had visited the scene and the fire was put off with the help of local volunteers in the area.
Mohammed said the cause of the inferno was not yet known .
He said the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, had ordered a full scale investigation into the incident.
