Gov. Fayemi May Lose Ekiti State To PDP, As Election Tribunal Set To Deliver Historic Judgement, Police On Red Alert

The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, will today, January 28, 2019, deliver judgment on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship Candidate, Professor Kolapo Olusola, challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, flag bearer, Governor Kayode Fayemi, in the July 14, 2018 Governorship election in the State.

Towards this end, the State Police Commissioner, Asuquo Amba, has cautioned Politicians in the State, against illegal assemblies, or protests capable of igniting violence.

The PDP Candidate, who scored 178,223 votes, as against Fayemi’s 197,459 votes, is praying the Tribunal to upturn the APC’s victory, based on alleged cases of vote-buying, alteration of results, falsification, and ballot snatching.

The Police Commissioner, who said that the Command would not allow anyone to destabilise the State, under the guise of protest over the outcome of the judgment, stated that the Command’s ‘Operation Make Ekiti Safe Squad’, is on ground to tame any unlawful assembly.

Amba, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Caleb Ikechukwu, said: “This squad is a Joint Task Force, comprising the Police and other sister Agencies, with about 150 men.

“They are spread all over the State, and being overseen by the Police. So, they are on ground to stop any unlawful assembly, or stop any protest that could result in violence.

“Whoever loses at the Tribunal, still has the option of appeal; so, violence is not the best option, for it will not be tolerated”, he said.

Meanwhile, the immediate past governor of the state,
Ayodele Fayose, has said that his successor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was only trying to cover up his 100 days of failure by lying that his administration incurred N155 billion debt.

Speaking through his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said no amount of falsehood can diminish his outstanding achievements in the state, adding that; “When a governor goes about advertising signing of 2019 Budget as a major program of his 100 Days in office, such a governor should be pitied and on this one, we can only pray for the reconstruction of the lying mind of Dr John Kayode Fayemi.”

“On September 8, 2018, Fayemi said Ekiti debt was N117 billion. On October 17, 2018, the same Fayemi claimed the debt was N170 billion. Today, he is talking about N155 billion, so which one should the public believe?”
