The Cross River State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association,NBA says any attempt to remove the chief justice of Nigeria CJN, from the office without following the due process will be resisted lawfully.
Speaking at an emmergency general meeting held at the state high court Calabar, Monday morning, the lawyers condemned as unlawful the manner in which the federal government and it's agencies have assaulted,ridiculed and degraded the person and office of the CJN.
Chairman of Calabar Branch ,Barr Emmanuel Idaka who read the communique said the Position of National body of NBA is adopted in entirety, warning that Nigeria should not be thrown into confusion.
The lawyers, while advising the federal government explained that only rule of law can allow democracy to thrive , warning that military autocracy should not be introduced to Nigeria's Constitutional democracy.
On their part, A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barr Mba Ukweni while throwing support behind the federal government war against corruption however said the rule of law should be applied which the agencies of the federal government failed to do in case of Justice Onnoghen.
Justice Onnoghen who is being accused by the federal government for non declaring of his asset in full, came from Cross River State and has served in different capacities at Calabar, Ikom and Ogoja Branches of the Bar before joined the Bench.
