Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday had a closed-door meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress, APC reconciliation committee.
The committee, led by Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima met with Amosun at his private residence in Ikeja, Lagos.
The meeting with Amosun, which was earlier scheduled for Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, was the committee’s last activity in the South-West, according to a press statement .
Discussions at the meeting focused on how to resolve the crisis in Ogun State chapter of the party.
Amosun had been at loggerheads with the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, after the party failed to recognise his choice, Adekunle Akinlade as the governorship candidate.
The party rather submitted the name of Dapo Abiodun to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, a move which infuriated Amosun.
Akinlade thereafter, in company of all members of the state house of assembly dumped the APC for the Allied Peoples Movement.
Amosun who was not ready to be defeated also vowed to ensure Akinlade wins the 2019 governorship election against the APC candidate.
Amosun said he had tried his best to stop the defection of Akinlade and other aggrieved candidates.
He vowed to use everything within his capacity to ensure the success of Akinlade and other aggrieved members in their new party.
“When these people came, they told me they are leaving the APC, I said ‘no’ but I couldn’t stop them. In fact, Akinlade has my full support.
“I am not going to stop him, everything I have, I will use to support him. Let them try whatever they want to try, we also have our strategies and I am not going to hide behind one finger,” the governor said.
Members of the committee had on Wednesday held closed door meetings with the party’s state chairman and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
Major stakeholders of the party in Lagos State including the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; the party’s governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; state chairman and members of the Governors’ Advisory Council attended the meeting.
