Delta Assembly Screens, Confirms Gov. Okowa's Nominees


The State House of Assembly, on Thursday, October 18, 2018, screened and confirmed seven nominees whose names were forwarded by the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for appointment into various positions in the State to the State House of Assembly.

The screening of the nominees at Thursday's plenary presided over by the Speaker Rt Hon Chief Sheriff Oborevwori followed separate motions moved by the Majority Leader, Honourable Tim Owhefere.

Those screened for appointment as Commissioners and members of the State Executive Council are Mr Julius Takeme from Burutu Local Government Area and Mr Freeman Orits Fregene from Warri South West Local Government Area.

The Commissioner nominees Mr Julius Takeme and Mr Freeman Fregene were introduced by the members representing their constituencies in the House.

Honourables Daniel Yingi and Daniel Mayuku said the nominees were loyal PDP members and have served meritoriously in the positions they previously held.

The Speaker, Honourable Oborevwori directed the nominees to take a bow and go.

The nominees screened for appointment into the Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC are Mr Mofe Pirah, Honourable Talib Tebite, Honourable Ejaife Odebala both former members of the State legislature and Dr Samuel Ochonogor Ossai for appointment as Executive Director.

The nominees were asked to take a bow and go by the Speaker who noted that the nominees Honorables Tebite and Odebala are former members of the House while Mr Pirah had been screened by the House.

According to the letter from the governor, the four nominees are to fill the vacancies created by the resignation of four members of the governing board.

The House also screened the nominee for appointment as a member of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Kelly Oghenekevwe.

He was also asked to take a bow and go by the Speaker after he was introduced by Honourable Reuben Izeze.

All the nominees were confirmed by the House following separate motions moved by the Majority Leader, Honourable Tim Owhefere.

Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa will tomorrow Friday [19/10/18] preside over the swearing in/inauguration ceremony of the appointees at the Unity Hall Government House Asaba at 10am.

Invited guests are to be seated at 9.30am.
