EKITI STATE: DEMOCRACY UNDER SEIGE; FAYOSE'S LIFE IN DANGER

We are obliged to draw the attention of all the citizens of Nigeria, African Union, United Nations and democracy lovers throughout the world to the charade going on in Ekiti State where the Federal Government and Inspector General of Police are making frantic efforts systematically at the life of Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose.

Specifically, yesterday, in the morning of July 11, 2018, overzealous 800 Nigerian Policemen blocked the entrance of the Government House. They shot sporadically in the direction of Mr Governor, released teargas carnisters on him and hit him with the bout of the gun thereby making him to slump and suffer injuries in the neck. But for God and timely intervention of man, the story would have been different. Like a cat with nine lives, Fayose survived the attempt on his life.

Earlier in the morning, the IGP had ordered the withdrawal of all the Governor's security personnel with immediate effect, leaving only his ADC and 2 others for the whole Government House. This order was conveyed to the Chief Security Officer of Ekiti State Government House SP. Joseph Gbenga through the "Police Wireless Message" number DTO:101815/07/2018. This was to pave way for the attack and assassination of Fayose all because of the Governorship Election holding on Saturday, July 14, 2018. (copy of the signal attached)

This is totally unacceptable to Ekiti people and condemned in strong terms. The activities of the FG, IGP and Nigerian Police in Ekiti are anti democratic and threat to the survival of Nigeria's nascent democracy. The FG and IGP will be held accountable if anything should happen to Fayose.

The IGP whose neutrality should not have been questioned is the one leading the assault on democracy and Ekiti people. He has compromised his neutrality and desecrated that exalted office. He is no longer fit to occupy that noble office. He should resign with immediate effect.

To us, this unfortunate development should serve as a timely hint to Nigerians that free and fair democracy is under seige and its stability threatened. It has been replaced by militocracy by the very people who benefitted from free and fair democracy under President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

We are equally aware of the large scale efforts being made (going by the boast of Mr Kayode Fayemi, APC Governorship candidate and APC leaders) that hooligans and thugs would be brought in to cause mayhem and murder in the state during the election.

While we admonish them not to attempt it because, no matter what is done, APC and its candidate will never get the support of Ekiti people. They are determined more than ever to exercise their fundamental human right.

If you are confident of your product, no need to point a gun at the customer to purchase it. The law abiding Ekiti people know where they are going, who they want and what they don't want. The voice of the people is the supreme voice of Almigthy God.

We enjoin all Ekiti people to remain calm and unprovoked by the anti-democratic elements, anti-people and servants of retrogression as they step out with the resolve and determination to elect the governor they desire on Saturday, July 14, 2018.

By the grace of God, the people of Ekiti will say with one voice PDP and Professor Olusola Eleka -YES O.
