Chairman, House Committee on Rural Development, Hon. Oladipupo has Adebutu said youths have the capacity to succeed, hoping that in 2019, those in their 20s and 30s would become Commissioners and also hold other positions at the state government and federal levels.
This he disclosed today on Sweet FM radio during a radio programme tagged: Youth and the Future, Youth and governance, anchored by Samuel Olojede, as monitored by AmeboFeeds.
Adebutu said, “We must recognise that we have a global village, what is the problem of Nigeria and why would an old man of 80 years old want to run for office again?
“On the Not too Young to run bill, we are hoping that the President will accent to the bill, though I’d be pleasantly surprised if he signs the bill.”
Speaking further, he said that the older ones should encourage the spirit of pulling the younger ones else, no one would be in a position of replacement when they eventually grow old so youths must be encouraged.
“It is imperative to note that our youths are the future and they must be well tutored to prepare for leadership positions.
If a 50 years old man call himself a youth leader, what example are we creating? We must give youths power to strive and thrive in the political space.”
He implored the electorate to shine their eyes widely and do serious research of candidates before they vote for an aspirant.
He also admonished all to go and get their PVCs and vote during the 2019 General Elections.
On winning elections without money, Adebutu said it will be difficult to win election without funds while he promised to support the Youth Liberation Movement and take them to greater heights.
Most of the callers on the programme commended the activities of Adebutu over the years and enjoined him to do more.
