A little thing is a little thing, but faithfulness in a little thing is a great thing. The leadership of the Apex students governing body National Association of Nigerian Students NANS led by his excellency Comr. Aruna Kadiri has kicked against the erection of a statue of South African President Jacob Zuma in Imo State, south east Nigeria costing about #520m.
National Association of Nigerian Students in a statement signed by Comrade Okereafor Bestman Opeyemi, the national Public Relations Officer described this as a symptom of insanity on the part of imo state government. Considering the economic condition of Imo State and Nigeria at large NANS do not expect such from any right thinking government.
It is on record that Jacob Zuma is a controversial politician who has involved himself in several legal scandals associated with corruption and racketeering. A polygamist with 20 children.
However NANS is not saying that the erection of statue for our falling and living heroes and non Nigerians who have helped the country positively in one way or the other, such as the late Nnamdi Azikiwe, late Sir Tafawa Balewa, late chief Obafemi Awolowo, late chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, late floral Shaw, late Lord Fedrick Lugard, late Mary Slessor, late Nelson mandela, frm president Goodluck Jonathan, frm. President Olusegun Obasanjo, President Muhammed Buhari among several others is a crime, what we are simply asking the Imo State government are the following:
What positive impact or contribution has a Jacob Zuma done or brought to the good people of imo state and Nigeria at large to deserve such statue?
Why is the worthless statue coming at a time when Nigerians are been killed unnecessarily, and unjustly in South Africa?
Wasn't Jacob Zuma South African President during the xenophobic attacks on blacks and Nigerians inclusive?
NANS is demanding prompt answers from the Imo State government to this burning questions as a matter of urgency.
