Federal Government has declared Monday, 21 August 2017 as public holiday to celebrate the arrival of President Buhari into Nigeria after spending 103 days in London, United Kingdom for medical treatment.
The government disclosed this on Sunday in a statement signed by the Minister of Interior, Abdurahman Dambazau.
The Minister of Interior urged all public institutions in Nigeria to use opportunity of the public holiday to pray for total recovery of the President from his undisclosed illness.
Dambazau also informed that President Buhari’s media broadcast to Nigerians has been shifted from 7am to 8am.
However, the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose has distanced his state from observing the Public holiday declared by the federal government to celebrate and jubilate over the return of President Buhari.
Fayose made the declaration in a statement signed by his Senior Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka in reaction to the public holiday declared by the Federal Government .
The statement reads:
The attention of the Ekiti State Government has been drawn to news report circulatng on Social Media that the Federal Government has declared tomorrow, Monday, August 21, 2017 as public holiday to mark the return of President Muhammadu Buhari to the country.
We wish to state that Ekiti State is not part of such holiday reportedly declared by the Federal government.
Residents of Ekiti State, especially public servants are enjoined to carry on with their normal businesses tomorrow as no holiday has been declared in the State.
