A middle aged woman, identified as Mrs Celia Okoye, on Sunday slumped and died in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State during theraid of a neighbourhood by the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, of the state Police command.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the woman, after returning from church on that fateful day, relaxed in her house sleeping, before a sudden chase of suspected criminals in the neighbourhood by the SARS.
As people were running helter skelter in various directions for dear lives, the woman was pushed in the process and she slumped and died instantly.
There were two conflicting reports as to the cause of death according to eye witness account and the Police.
Contacted, the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, Mr Hassan Musa, said that, the son of the woman had just made a statement that his mother was pushed down by one of her children as they were running away.
“Whoever said she was pushed by the SARS is not saying the truth because the police did not even enter the compound, let alone push the woman,” he added.
The other report had it that the woman, who was hypertensive, had on hearing the sound of gun and the rush into her compound by the police, who in the process pushed her down, slumped and died.
As at the time of filing this report, the corpse of the woman has being deposited at the Immaculate Heart Hospital morgue in Nkpor.
