Man macheted to death inside his house in Ondo

A 30-year-old man identified as Babangida Oni was, on Monday evening, found dead in his house in Ise-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Oni was reportedly macheted to death by unidentified hoodlums while some members of the community alleged that the killing was masterminded by the Fulani herdsmen in the area.

The deceased, who was found in the pool of his blood, was said to have been macheted by people who came to his house late in the evening.

According to a source, the body of the farmer was found in his residence by one of his nephews who, on Tuesday morning, inform his brother about the development.

The source said that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the State Specialist Hospital in Ikare-Akoko.

A police source, however, told the Tribune Online that “at about 10:00 a.m., one Yunusa Oni, who resides at Akunnu-Akoko came to the station and reported that on that fateful day at about 7:00 a.m., his nephew, one Idris Oni, called to inform him that three men came to their house in Ise-Akoko where they macheted the victim who was his brother to death.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state police command, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said no one had been arrested in connection with the killing.

He informed that the state police command had begun investigations into the matter with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book and pledged that the command would intensify efforts to unravel those behind the act.
