Two persons were killed on Thursday, July 30, after a truck ran over them at the Nigerian NationalPetroleum Corporation (NNPC)filling station along Abuja-Kubwa expressway.

The accident which took place in the early hours of the day, was caused by a driver of an Abuja Urban Mass Transit bus popularly called ‘El-Rufai bus’.
Daily Independent, citing account by an eye witness, reports that the driver of thetruck was coming from the city centre and was approaching the Kubwa second gate when he came in collision with the fully loaded transit bus coming out to the expressway.
The witness said: “The truck driver was already close to the junction when thedriver of the bus suddenly entered the expressway without confirming if the road was free from traffic.”

According to him, in a bid to avoid hitting the fully loaded bus, the trailer plunged into a ditch and ran over the two men who were standing by the road side, reading newspaper in front of a newspaper stand.
The accident immediately stirred a grid lock along the road, as security personnel sealed off the area, while the remains of the deceased were evacuated to a nearby hospital.

In his reaction to the fatal tragedy, Nurrudeen Sabo, the chief superintendent of Kubwa police division, confirmed the accident, said the driver of the bus was taken to a nearby police station for questioninig.
