The consequences of fuel scarcity.
Driver, John Awotwe, who allegedly stole his employer’s diesel worth N108,500 was brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the 43 year old driver apparently committed the crime on June 26 at Surulere. According to him, the accused stole the N108,500 diesel from Crystal Nigeria Ltd.
As the story goes, the accused apparently was in charge of driving the tanker to his employer, but instead diverted the vehicle and sold it for his own personal gain. In the prosecutor’s words: “The accused did not return with the diesel to the company and also failed to remit money from the sale of the commodity”
Iseghede also noted that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 which provides three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.F. Adeeyo, granted the accused who pleaded not guilty bail in the sum of N90, 000 with a surety in like sum.

She said the sureties, who must be gainfully employed, should provide a bank statement duly signed by the bank manager.
The magistrate has adjourned the case to July 8.
