No fewer than four persons were reported dead in a multiple accident on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
Tribune Online learnt from an eyewitness that the accident happened at about 8.00 p.m. on Monday, a few metres from the old toll gate at the Sagamu end of the expressway.
He said the accident occurred as a result of a fully loaded truck carrying diesel which fell at one of the sharp bends on the highway, spilling its content on the other side of the road.
The accident involved a commercial motorcycle, a truck carrying cement, a commercial bus and two other trucks carrying fertilisers and tyres.
There was traffic gridlock on the expressway as a result of the accidents, as vehicles going towards the South east had to follow the lines of those going to Lagos.
According to an eyewitness, the accident happened because motorists did not know that the road was slippery after the truck emptied its diesel on the road.
One of the survivors of the accident, Abubakar Umar, told newsmen that he ran into slippery road oblivious of what happened.
He said lost control of his truck and skidded off the road, adding that he cheated death by the whiskers.
Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the police and the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency were seen at the scene of the incident controlling vehicular movements.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
He said that available report indicated that one life was lost.
