President Goodluck Jonathan took his campaign to Benin, Edo State and Asaba, Delta state on Wednesday with a promise to support only governorship candidates within the Peoples Democratic Party that would not constitute a problem to the federal government.
The President who had in his campaign trail his wife, governors from the South-South region, Nollywood stars and the national leadership of the PDP, urged the people to vote only governors that would easily collaborate with the central government to bring development to them.
Jonathan who spoke intermittently in pidgin, vowed to empower the youths and women if re-elected, noting that the citing of the Maritime University in Delta state was a sign that his administration loves the youths.
‘’In the next election, I want you to vote the PDP. I will work with the governor because the next governor will be a peoples governor. If it’s a governor that will be fighting us, good things will not come.
‘’I need a governor that we can tell, go to ogidigben, go there and his will go. We need a governor that will work with us. Vote PDP in the house of assembly election, so we can all work together to bring development’’, Jonathan said.
The president boasted that before this administration, no government ever worked with the youths like his.
‘’ Because this is a modern government and we know where this government is going, that is why we encourage Nigerians to vote for us.
‘’We have built the first maritime university and the gas city which is the biggest investment in gas in which the government wants to, in collaboration with the private sector invest $16bn.
‘’When we are done with this project, the gas project will give jobs because they will be paying in dollars. Now Delta boys and girls will be enjoying’’, the president said.
‘’We must win the elections, we are going to win elections and Nigeria must move forward. And we must transform this country forever’’, he added.
In Edo, the president also promised to take care of young people. ‘’We are talking about transformation, not just change. If you move from your room to your parlour, you have changed but you haven’t done anything.
‘’You have not transformed yourself. We will move this nation forward. Soon Singapore and Nigeria will be the same level. We are talking about transformation and that is why we are talking about schools’’ he assured.
Jonathan stated that his government would continue to encourage those in the creative industry, noting that he would encourage those who cannot go to school to express their talents in other ways.
‘’We have opened 14 universities. We will make sure our young people go to school. We will encourage dancers, musicians. We won’t lock people up in prison, prisons don’t bring anything good.
While taking a swipe at the opposition, the president argued that when the presidential candidate of the All Peoples Congress was Head of State, there was no evidence that he encouraged development.
‘’They said they want change, but ask them when they were there, how many schools they built for us. When we did the national conference, we sent 18 youths there. In our days in the university, only one person attended.
‘’We believe in the youths. They want to deceive us. Don’t let anybody deceive you. If you like youths and women what did you do for them when you were there? If they can’t answer you, tell them you can’t follow them. The only party you should follow is the PDP’’, Jonathan told his audience.
